"Worship is...
our response,
both personal and corporate,
to God-
for who He is!
and what He has done!
expressed in and by the things we say
and the way we live."
I couldn't help but chuckle when I read the comparison of worship being something one does as opposed to something one watches. It's so true. Too often people associate worship with watching what goes on. In reality, it doesn't matter what is on the screens, what the lights look like, or where your chair is. Worship is so much bigger than the glitter and glam. I am not against making the screens and lights look nice; in fact, i prefer it, but it's definitely not necessary. I think people confuse the look with something of a distraction. If the lights and screens are "distractions," worship isn't really taking place! We are supposed to get lost in Christ and what He is speaking to us throughout the worship experience - whatever that may be.
We don't initiate worship; we simply respond to it.
"Unless we see God, we cannot worship Him. Worship is what spontaneously flows out of us when we come face-to-face with Him. It's the natural response to all of who He is - our uncalculated response to all He has done."
That sums up so much about worship. The words spontaneously, natural, and uncalculated are so fitting for how our worship to God is/should be. When we see God and His splendor, we should exalt Him above all else - give Him all of His most deserving praise!
"When our worship is small, it's because our concept of God is small." It's almost like when things are good; our worship is large because somehow God is "better." When things are bad, well, God isn't treating me the way I desire, so in return, I'm not going to give Him as much praise. Wait, what? Really? It's so sad, yet, so true. We lose sight of the truth of Jeremiah 29:11. God works together all things for our good. Not just the things we want to happen, everything.
Instead of a duty, it's our privilege to worship the Almighty God. He invites us to do so; it's our response to do it.
